Building the authorization layer for AI agents

Alter Labs builds the credential and authorization layer that lets AI agents act on real systems safely.

Agents now read inboxes, file tickets, move money, and ship code. Every one of those actions runs on a borrowed credential. The infrastructure that decides what software may do, as opposed to what a person may do, mostly does not exist yet.

We started Alter to build it: a vault that holds the credentials, a policy engine that bounds every request, identity for every agent, and a record that cannot be altered after the fact.

Alter is built in New York City and backed by Y Combinator. We build for the platform and security teams answerable for what their agents do.
